I Love Marpole Word Art Installation

Published: August 26, 2020

The Marpole Business Improvement Association (BIA) is delighted that the long-anticipated I Love Marpole word art piece has been installated at the gateway into the Marpole commercial district and community.

The I “Heart” Marpole word art installation is located on Granville Street at West 63rd Avenue. The installation is placed at the northern entrance into the commercial district for those travelling south into the Marpole community, though it is visible to all pedestrians and drivers going through the neighbourhood. The I “Heart” Marpole installation was conceived as a piece of word art inspired by similar installations around the world.

“We saw similar word art installations in other cities like Amsterdam, Toronto and Mumbai, and thought it would be great to try to do this at a neighbourhood level,” says Ragnar Bertelsen, Vice President of the Marpole BIA. “The I “Heart” Marpole installation shows our community pride while at the same reminding visitors where they are when travelling through our Marpole neighbourhood.”

The Marpole community has embraced this installation with a real sense of community pride. Residents and business people are happy to see this installation as a welcome gateway into our friendly Marpole community, and appreciate that we’re celebrating our neighbourhood in a positive way.

The Marpole BIA thanks TransLink, the City of Vancouver, Tops Lighting and Ken Stobbs Landscaping for their assistance in helping the I “Heart” Marpole installation come to life.
